WORKSHOP AND TRIP TO OAXACA ART, CULTURE AND CRAFTS.

My name is Guadalupe Trejo and for 18 years I have been teaching Mexican folk art in San Miguel de Allende.

I invite you to take a trip to Oaxaca as I did many years ago, so that you can learn about its crafts, its art, and its culture.

You will get to know this city by the hand of a Mexican woman and a group of Oaxacan people who are proud to show you their city.

We will visit Oaxaca and its surroundings for 6 days and 5 nights (A), visiting its archaeological zones, its museums and, above all, its artisan towns, where dear friends will open the doors of their workshops to teach us to paint an alebrije, to make black clay, to make natural paintings, wax flowers, chocolates and Oaxacan food.

We will walk through its streets, visit its museums, churches and markets. We will try Oaxacan food as the locals do and attend a Guelaguetza show.

I have carefully designed this trip so that you can see as much as possible of my favorite city in Mexico. We will stay in a hotel in the center of Oaxaca and we will have a van that will take us to all the places we will visit.

Prepare your camera because you will have the opportunity to take the best photos of this beautiful city and its surrounding towns.

 

My fellow artisans will be waiting for you in their workshops so that you can make a beautiful memory in each one of them and learn about their different working techniques.

HOW WILL WE TRAVEL TO OAXACA?

If you live in San Miguel de Allende:

We rent a van that will take us from San Miguel de Allende to the Bajío airport.

There we will fly with the airline Aeroméxico in economy class. Two carry-on bags are allowed with a weight limit of 10 kilos (33 pounds).

If you wish, you can choose a more expensive flight that allows you to carry more luggage, have better seats or have cancellation or cancellation insurance. It is only a matter of notifying us so that we can help you book (this additional cost will be added to your account).

If you live outside of San Miguel de Allende:

You can get to the city of Oaxaca through a connection in Mexico City, very easily accessible from almost anywhere in Mexico or the world. Look for the OAX airport code.

In this case, you must book your flight for Monday, February 13, 2023 and make sure you arrive before 2:00 p.m.

ARRIVAL IN OAXACA

Upon arrival in Oaxaca, the van that will transport us during the trip will pick us up to take us to our hotel. In case you fly on your own on a different flight than ours, the van can pick you up at the airport and take you to the hotel for an additional cost of 300 pesos.

HOW WILL WE MOVE IN OAXACA?

We have 2 van options, depending on the number of travelers we are.

GMC ACAIDA 7-seater SUV.

NISSAN URBAN van with 12 seats.

Both will be driven by drivers with a license and transportation permit.

This service is contracted to take us to the places we visit, pick us up at the airport and return us to the airport on the days of arrival and departure.

We have the option of renting it at other times in case we want to go out at night.

WHERE WILL WE STAY?

We will stay in a hotel a few blocks from the main garden and the cathedral. We will have a basic and private room with a double bed.

The rooms have private bathroom, TV screen, Wifi.

There is the option of sharing a room to get a lower price.

WHAT MEALS ARE INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?

All breakfasts are included, with a menu to choose from.

Monday: WELCOME DINNER on the terrace, with a drink included. The rest of the drinks will be at your own expense.

Day 4 LUNCH Tasting of mezcal and Oaxacan food.

Day 5 LUNCH, tasting of 7 moles and lunch with a traditional Oaxacan cook.

Friday: DINNER and Guelaguetza show as FAREWELL, with a drink included.

The rest of the lunches and dinners will be on your own, but we have found restaurants where eating well will cost you 11 USD. Also, you should know that one of the best experiences in Oaxaca is to eat in its traditional markets and fondas, which are very cheap. You will see that

in Oaxaca the problem will not be finding good food, but deciding what to eat.

WHAT ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES WILL WE VISIT?

We have scheduled a visit to the museum of cultures where, among many other things, you will be able to see the beautiful treasure of tomb 7 discovered in Monte Alban.

WORKSHOPS IN WHICH WE WILL PARTICIPATE

We will paint an alebrije in one of the most renowned workshops in the town of San Martín Tilcajete.

We will make a piece of black clay in the town of San Bartolo Coyotepec.

We will work with beeswax in Teotitlán del Valle, to make a traditional candle.

In Teotitlán we will also have a demonstration of natural paints and the process to make a wool rug.

We will participate in a delicious chocolate making workshop, taking it from the seed to the bar.

We will visit a mezcal factory and have a tasting of mezcal sweet creams.

We will visit a traditional cook who will teach us the purpose of 7 different moles and we will have a meal with her.

IMPORTANT

This workshop is prepared for a maximum of 9 people.

You must be physically able to walk without support and be able to stand at times.

You should bring good walking shoes, a hat or cap for the sun, and your bag or backpack.
